The Costa Maya Solar Club

Better Solar Together

The Costa Maya Solar Club isn’t a typical company service—it’s just a way for neighbors to get together and make sure no one in Mahahual is left in the dark. By pooling resources, everyone ensures the parts you need are already sitting on a shelf in town before you ever need them.

How the Club Works

To keep things simple and easy to manage, we help organize small clubs of 20 members each. We try to spread members out across different neighborhoods—that way, if a big storm hits one area, the whole club isn’t trying to grab the same parts at the same time.

How to Join Your Local Club

Getting to Know Your System:

We start with a professional inspection of your solar setup. We need to know exactly what you have so we can stock the right parts for you! If we don’t know what’s on your roof, it’s hard to have the right gear ready when you need it. This visit is a simple two-hour fee.

Your Solar Details:

After the visit, we’ll give you a copy of the inspection. You’ll know exactly what parts you have and what kind of condition your system is in.

Joining the Group:

Every club has a fee to join. This money isn’t for us—it’s used to buy the parts for the whole group. Because the cost is spread across 20 people, it’s a great way to get protection without breaking the bank.

What Happens if You Need a Repair?

If something breaks, we pull the part from the club inventory and come out to fix it (we just charge for the labor to do the work). To keep the club full for the next person, the member who used the part pays to replace it. We’ll send an email out to the whole club whenever a part is used so everyone stays in the loop.

Keeping Things Honest

Every member should feel 100% secure about their membership. We have a few simple things we do to make sure everything is transparent:

No Holding Money

When you pay into the club, that money is spent right away on parts. We don’t hold onto your cash. Any receipt or invoice for what we buy is available for every member to see.

Monthly Inventory Checks

We keep a running list of what’s in stock for your club. You’ll always have access to this list so you can see exactly what’s sitting on the shelf.

Photos of Your Parts

We take regular photos of the inventory. You don’t have to take our word for it—you can see the actual parts waiting for your club.

The Club Map

We keep a basic list of what kind of system each member has and where they are located. We never share your personal or private info—just the technical details that help the club stay prepared for a rainy day.

What’s in the Club Stock?

Each club keeps a supply of the main items that are hard to find in town, plus the “little things” that cause the most trouble:

  • The Big Stuff: Inverters, solar panels, and batteries.

  • The Hard-to-Find Small Parts: Fuses, PSDs, and those AC/DC circuit breakers that are easy to swap but tough to track down in a pinch.

  • Connections: Heavy-duty cables, connectors, and bus bars to keep your battery-to-inverter setup solid.

  • Monitoring: The software and hardware that lets you see how your solar is running.

  • The Safety Net: Most importantly, every club has a Portable Backup System. If your solar is down for a repair, we’ll set this up to keep your fridge cold, your WiFi on, and your lights bright.

Simple Club Guidelines

Every member gets a simple outline of how the club operates. It’s not a long legal document—just a friendly agreement so everyone is on the same page and knows how the club works.

Our Role: We aren’t members of any club ourselves. We just created the system so neighbors can help neighbors. We’re here to hold the parts, keep the records, and do the expert work of repairing and replacing items when they’re needed.
